The Maharashtra Employment
Guarantee Act, 1977.
An act to make effective provisions for securing the right to work by guaranteeing employment to all adult persons who volunteer to do unskilled manual work in rural areas in the State of Maharashtra.
1.
To
provide the unskilled manual work to adult labour residing in rural area and C
class Municipal Council area and willing to do any unskilled manual work.
2.
To
construct the durable assets for the benefit of the community and the economy.
3.
To
overcome the rural unemployment problem in scarcity period.
Special
Features.
·
State
is taking guarantee to provide unskilled work to adult agricultural labourers.
·
Employment
guarantee is at district level . The planning should be done to provide work
within 8 km peripheral area of village or at least in the same panchayat samiti
area.

The ratio of expenditure on work done under E.G.S. should be within limits of 51:49 for unskil : skill work. The 51:49 ratio is applicable for following works.

But for the soil conservation works, watershed development works, work done by Social Forestry dept. the unskilled: skill ratio is 60:40.
The wages shall be paid according to the schedule of rates. The schedule of rates shall be so fixed that a person working diligently for 7 hours a day would normally get a total wage equal to the minimum wage for agricultural labourer for the relevant zone fixed by the State Government from time to time.

The

The
wages shall be directly linked with the quality and quantity of work.

for labour
The following type of amenities are given to labour working on E.G.S. work

Supply
of spects made up of metal wire instead of glass to labours doing the work of
metal breaking

Ex
gratia remuneration @ Rs 50000/- to labour accidental death or permanent
disabilities while working on EGS work.

Maternity
leave for female worker
g)
The
14 days leave for female labour and 7 days leave for male labour is allowed for
family planning operations.
h)
Wages
are given on forth-nightly basis.
